The College of Agriculture was established in Tripoli pursuant to a decision of the Council of Ministers issued on Rabi’ al-Thani 8, 1386 AH, corresponding to June 27, 1966 AD. The college was opened and the first batch of students was accepted during the academic year 1966-1967 AD. The study began in the Third Farm College with scientific departments: the Department of Agricultural Production, the Department of Animal Production, and the Department of Civil Engineering, then the Department of Food Industries was added to it during the Public University 1971 - 1972 AD. The Department of Creative Production was created from five divisions: Agricultural Economics, Horticulture, Plant Protection, and Agricultural Engineering, so a student is placed in the departments starting from the third year with regard to justice, the Food Industries Department and the Agricultural Engineering Division, where specialization begins in them. From the first year. In 1978 AD, the previous divisions were transformed into independent scientific departments, and in the same year the Departments of Pastures, Forestry, and Home Economics were established. The Department of Aquaculture was also established in 1995 AD, and thus the number of scientific departments in the college became eleven scientific departments. Established in 2015 The Quality and Performance Evaluation Department, the Research, Consulting and Training Department, and the Documentation and Information Department. The number of students enrolled in and graduating from the college developed significantly, as the study began by accepting the first batch of students, and their number was forty-two students at the beginning of the academic year 1966 - 1967 AD. Then the number of students developed until it reached more than 900 male and female students during the academic year 2019-2020. The number of graduates of the first batch reached 29 graduates in the academic year 1969-1970 AD, and the cumulative number of graduates reached 10,723 graduates until the academic year 2019-2020 AD. The number of graduates has varied over the past twenty years, as the total number of graduates during the period from 2001 to 2010 reached 2,997 graduates, of whom female graduates constituted 67.3% and male graduates 32.7%. Then the number of graduates decreased during the period from 2011 to 2020 to 1,284 graduates, which will have a negative impact. On the labor market’s growing needs for qualified expertise, the percentage of female graduates also increased during the same period by 74.7% compared to males by 25.3%.
