About Department of Afroasian Languages

    The Department of Afro-Asiatic Languages (formerly African) is one of the departments that were recently created at the Faculty of Languages, University of Tripoli. Its history dates back to 2003 under the name of the Department of African Languages, before its name was changed to the Department of Afro-Asian Languages in 2017 to include Asian languages as well as African languages.

The department consists of:

  • Division of African Languages (Swahili and Hausa)
  • Division of Asian Languages (Russian Language)
  • The department is in the process of activating some languages, such as (Turkish).

The first person to head the department and establish it was: Prof. Dr. Abdullah Abdul Hameed bin Suwaid, and then successively chaired the department:

  • Dr. Abdel Nasser Shetao
  • Dr.. Khalifa Saleh Ghanem.
  • Mr. Sobhi Saleh Al-Qaduli. 4. Prof. Abdul Salam Abdullah Abu Zweik
  • The department is currently headed by a. Badr El Din Mohamed Salem
